In archipelagoes like Indonesia, Maldives, the Philippines or the Pacific Island countries, the hotel industry has expanded its business in areas with limited or no electricity supply. Due to the lack of electricity, many of the hotels and resorts generate their own power to meet their needs using diesel generators. This is not only expensive but also a growing source for Greenhouse Gas emissions. Switching to renewable energy using local resurces is a cost-effective solution that can provide electricty to nearby communities and thus can be an important tool for developing the energy infrastructure in remote islands.

CAN YOUR IDEA BE UPSCALED WITHOUT SUBSIDIES?

First implementation will require certain amount of subsidy to convince resort to switch to renewable energy (e.g. market analysis, feasibility study), set up ESCO (if out-sourced) or power management, first installements, infrastruture etc.

Increased demand from hotel or community will not require subsidy.
